Russian Twist
HOW TO PERFORM

How to perform

The Russian Twist is a core movement used to build the obliques, improve rotational control, and develop midline endurance. In this version it can be performed with bodyweight only.

How to Perform

  1. Sit on the floor with the knees bent and the heels lightly planted.
  2. Lean the torso back slightly while keeping the chest lifted.
  3. Bring the hands together in front of the body.
  4. Rotate through the trunk to one side, return to center, then rotate to the other side.
  5. Continue with smooth, controlled repetitions.

Coaching Tips

  • Let the twist come from the trunk and ribcage, not just the arms.
  • If the low back gets tired, keep the feet planted more firmly.
  • Do not trade quality rotation for speed.

Programming Use

Useful for core work, finishers, and preparation for rotational or anti-rotation training.
